Prescription Textile Protection
From umbrellas to bullet-proof vests, one of the main functions of textiles is to protect us. In healthcare settings, textiles already have a role in protecting people from disease. Doctors and other medical personnel wear face masks, surgical gowns, and other textile products that protect them against pathogens and other contaminants. Patients have bandages that protect their wounds against contaminants and other infectious agents.
The role of textiles for the control of pathogens as wound care products is well understood, but in this day of drug-resistant organisms… pathogen control is not so simple as a bandage.
